Partnering with Universities and Research Institutes globally to improve farm-based livelihoods in Africa "

The Catalyst Program

We build partnerships with universities and research institutes globally inorder to:

a.   develop knowledge and technology pools suitable for addressing matters of climate change, environmental conservation, sustainable livelihoods development, environmental entrepreneurship support and  bio-diversity protection.

b.  further research and/or package research findings into simple transferable concepts suitable for use by farm-based households in Africa.

c. foster peer-to-peer learning and networking while engaging policymakers and implementers effectively.

d. challenge one another out of our comfort zones.

e. establish sources of funding and related partnerships for our joint research, publishing and dissemination in the grassroots.

Climate Smart Push-pull Technology

Our partnership with ICIPE adopts  Climate Smart  Push-pull Technology to help local farmers to eliminate striga plant, maize stalk-borer and fall army-worm while increasing soil fertility and fodder development organically.

Food and nutritional security remains a very crucial part of bamboo farming and product development systems. Bamboo farmers need good food and water. They also need the assurance that they will have this good food and water whenever they need it. This is why we developed Bamboo Agro-forestry Project to help farmers and both artisans and craftspeople together with their customers to have food and nutritional security at all times. Climate Smart Push-pull Technology is one of our tools for doing this.  ICIPE has partnered with us to ensure that we deliver on it with precision and cost effectively.

This partnership also adopts research on the role of bamboo plant in Push-pull Technology Situations among other research topics.

Farmer Field Schools Program

Our partnership with  the School of Agriculture and Environmental Studies of
works on strengthening capacities of grassroot actors in extension services and support.  We adopt a Farmer Field School approach to reach farm-based households.

Bamboo farming systems require extension support for effectiveness. Unfortunately, it is a plant that has not been given the attention it deserves in Africa. Rongo University and Bamboo Resource Centre offers a joint approach to developing extension and related capacities of farmers and students through a multidisciplinary approach.  This brings together the department of environmental studies, agriculture and a

It also adopts research on bamboo plant physiology and ecology among other research topics.
